Jungle Produce coconuts are sourced from the rich, volcanic soils of Samoa where they are one of the mainstays of the economy, providing livelihoods to many and are a cash crop to the local villagers.
In 1977 our director Geoff Pritchard first visited the island nation of Samoa and fell in love with the locals, their community and culture, and just wanted to get involved.
Geoff immediately recognised an opportunity to work with the villagers to expand the potential of the already established coconut plantations. At the time they were underutilised because of the very low world price for Coconut Oil.
This versatile tree, aptly dubbed The Tree of Life, is an invaluable source of food, fuel and housing for the Samoan people. Every part of the tree is used, including the roots which are used for medicinal purposes. Naturally the local people’s skill and understanding of coconuts is tremendous.
Geoff’s initial dream was to create an opportunity for the locals to export Fresh Mature Samoan Coconuts to the Australian Supermarkets and from there his company has gone to on to become heavily involved in the local communities.
Jungle Produce funds and implements Food Safety and Ethical Sourcing programs, which are mandatory in order for sale to Australian supermarkets, and provides financial assistance and community support.
What started as a dream over 35 years ago is still well and truly alive today!
Jungle Produce now source mature brown coconuts from Samoa and Tonga and our drinking coconuts (Young Coconuts) from Thailand. Our distribution is national and our coconuts can be found in supermarkets throughout Australia.
